Job Details

The SCADA Engineer plays a pivotal role in leading and executing SCADA projects, providing technical expertise and innovative solutions to our customers. This position participates in all project phases, from planning and design to testing and commissioning, and startup support. The SCADA Engineer will collaborate closely with customers, team members and program directors/project managers to ensure successful project delivery.


Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Participate in SCADA project activities, e.g., planning, design, requirements gathering, SCADA development and testing, application development, HMI and Database development, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup support.

  • Communicate effectively with the client, PM regarding scheduling, solution development, and conflict resolution as needed.

  • Support leaders on proposals with estimates and sales support activities during RFP phases.

  • Visit customer sites to participate in kick off and other critical meetings, testing phases, etc. (up to 15%).

  • Work with team members from other areas for the overall benefit of our clients.

  • Respond to technical questions from end users on software, and operation methods.

  • Demonstrate efficiency with troubleshooting in client/server applications. 

  • Deploy server and VM operating system and application packages.

  • Develop scripts that will help in accomplishing repetitive day to day tasks.
  • Design, develop (or lead developers to develop) software applications to meet customer requirements.

    Support, maintain and document software functionality.

  • Evaluate and identify new technologies for implementation.

  • Maintain standards compliance.

  • Participate in the design, development and testing of SCADA system implementations or functional enhancements.

  • Provide technical support, troubleshooting, problem diagnosis, and configuration changes.

  • Conduct FAT/SAT and commissioning for new applications before installation.

  • Support SCADA applications through the transition of SCADA projects.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of IT and SCADA best practices, standards, and operating procedures.

  • Prepare and maintain product and operational documentation as per project requirements.

  • Careful and diligent compliance with all relevant change management procedures.

    Proactively support the Dexcent safety program and initiatives; maintaining compliance with all safety policies and procedures (including client site specific programs), and ensuring utilization of safe work practices on client sites and in the office.

  • Display a spirit of innovation and continuous improvement; suggesting product improvements, sales growth opportunities, cost savings options and work environment improvements

  • May attend association events, seminars and meetings to promote Dexcent and maintain a high profile in the industry

  • Maintain a positive attitude and communication style with clients, vendors and team members in all circumstances

  • Other duties and special projects as assigned by management.     

Candidate Qualifications:

  • A Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline.       

  • Minimum 5-10 years of related experience in SCADA projects. 

  • Minimum 5 years of experience on AVEVA Enterprise/OASyS. 
  • Experience in an industrial process environment.

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada and be able to legally travel to the US.

  • Registration with APEGA is preferred.

  • History of continuing professional development and training in related technologies and soft skills is an asset.
