Job Details

The Telecommunications Analyst consults with the client to identify needs and provide design and support services for video and control system data communication systems used in the client’s liquids pipeline system.  This role’s focus is to provide a consistent radio telecommunications solution, managing solution costs and implementation schedule.

This position may be located in Edmonton or Calgary and will provide on-site client support.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the video and control system data communication components for client capital projects.

  • Provide technical support for the ongoing operation of installed systems in the areas of video and control system data communication system technologies.  This includes recommending solutions to operational issues, field training for personnel involved in newly installed communication systems, and resolving problem reports.

  • Participate in the evaluation and negotiation of tower leases with provincial and local agencies and cellular companies throughout the pipeline system.

  • Provide 2nd and/or 3rd tier on-call support for installed video and control system data communication systems used in operations.

  • Identify opportunities for further enhancements to the client telecommunications system through on-going R&D on new technologies, support and lessons learned analyses.

  • Assist with capital budget submissions directed at maintaining and advancing the client’s video and control system data communication systems and enhancing the department’s services related to these areas. 

  • Prepare documentation of installed video and control system data communication assets.

  • Participate in selected internal technical and review committees.

  • Develop and/or update client technical standards and specifications as they apply to video and control system data communications.

  • Develop and/or update company processes and procedures as they apply to video and control system data communications.

  • Establish new and expand existing working relationships with a cross-section of stakeholders within the client organization as well as with equipment manufacturers, vendors and service providers.

  • Maintain careful and diligent compliance with all relevant change management procedures.

  • Proactively support the Dexcent safety and security programs and initiatives; maintain compliance with all safety and security policies and procedures (including client site specific programs) and ensure utilization of safe work practices on client sites and in the office.

  • Maintain a positive attitude and communication style with clients, vendors, and team members in all circumstances.

  • Other duties and special projects as assigned.

 

Candidate Qualifications:

  • Engineering degree or technology diploma in electronic or computer technology with emphasis in radio/communications systems or equivalent from a recognized university or technical college.

  • 4-7 years of data communication systems technical experience.

  • Ability to travel in North America.

  • Knowledge of Cellular, Radio, VSAT, Serial RS232.

  • Have extensive working knowledge and understanding of data communication systems, including communication using radio frequencies.

  • Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills coupled with ability to translate client needs into technical solutions and recommendations.

  • Ability to consistently solve technical problems as they arise and make decisions on how a problem’s solution will impact the immediate problem and the system as a whole.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form. Strong written communications abilities, including good spelling and grammar are essential for this position.

  • Ability to effectively interact with peers, internal stakeholders, equipment vendors and service providers.

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.

  • Extremely professional with high integrity, ethics, confidentiality, and a strong work ethic.

  • Consistently able to handle multiple priorities, issues and high stress situations while maintaining confidence and a professional demeanor.

  • Strong customer service, organization, and time management skills.

  • Able to work within a team and when required independently with minimal supervision.

  • Proven proficiency with the MS Office suite of programs. 

  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.

  • History of continuing professional development and training in related technologies and soft skills is an asset.
